Carbonite Pro supports:
- Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7
- Standard 32-bit and 64-bit versions of XP and Vista
- Windows Server 2003 & 2008*.
* Because Windows Server configurations vary, our recommendation for Windows Server is to install a free Carbonite trial on your Windows Server machine, back up some data, and do a test restore of the files you've backed up to make sure Carbonite will work in your Windows Server environment.
Carbonite Pro does not support:
- Older versions of Windows (Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows ME)
- Linux operating systems.
- Mac
Remote File Access
Web access:
- Access backed up files from your web browser
NEW! iPhone app:
- Access backed up files from the Carbonite iPhone app. Available for download here
Backup Policy
Default (automatic) backup policy:
- Files & folders stored in C:\Documents and Settings (or C:\Users for Windows Vista and Windows 7), other than files larger than 10 GB
Additional support through manual backup selection:
- External USB drives
- Files or directories outside the Documents & Settings folder*
* Note, most financial applications like Peachtree or Quicken set up a default file path outside of Documents and Settings. These files must be manually selected for backup.
Carbonite Pro does not back up:
- System files or applications
Backup Administration
Administrators are able to use the Carbonite Pro dashboard to:
- Add users and other administrators to their account
- View the total storage summary and backup status for all users
- Learn of any account alerts that signal unusual backup activity
- Send users instructions for specific tasks like reinstalling Carbonite Pro
- Freeze backup activity for any user
- Prevent users from logging in to their accounts
- Delete users or specific computers
- Re-assign computers to new users
Administrators are never required to:
- Designate a storage cap for their account
- Assign individual storage quotas to individual users
